here are answers to questions that i get a lot concerning robot carnival.
if you have a question but don't see it listed here, then by all means
e-mail me, and i will be happy to try to answer it.
1. where can i get the movie for myself?
finding a vhs copy is difficult; the rights for vhs copies to be produced were taken when streamline pictures went out of
business. the best thing to do if you want a vhs copy is to sign up at e-bay
and bid on a used copy.
warning: make sure that the copy is of the released dubbed version, not a fansubbed version!
why? because fansub distributors sell the tapes to people only for the price of the tape it is copied on; like a non-profit
organization, fansub distributors only make enough to keep themselves going. to have a person sell a fansub would be asking
for a profit. if it's being sold by a fansub distributor, then they are overstepping their bounds; if it is sold by an ordinary
citizen, then they are disregarding the general etiquette of fansubbing.
now, if you want a dvd copy, that is easy to do! i've seen many copies of the robot carnival dvd in my local suncoast
video store as well as on e-bay. however, i've heard that these copies are only english subtitled and that those subtitles are
in poor english (not "all your base," but close). i haven't bought a copy to examine for myself, but at the very least you
can watch it in its original format (japanese dialogue, no subtitles). it's not like they talk much in the movie, anyway. ;)
2. how about the soundtrack cd?
much easier! lots of places still sell the robot carnival soundtrack, and at a good price, too.
cdnow is one of them,
and you can also check out amazon.com,
bestbuy,or borders.
you can even check out your local blockbuster or renaissance stores if you don't like hasslingwith
internet shopping.
3. what is this card set you keep referring to?
the robot carnival card set was a promotional card set made to boost the
movie's appeal (advertisement). there are 81 cards in the set, the fronts
of which you can see in the image section, under
scans. i finally got hold of one of the sets for myself and am scanning in
the backs of the cards to be put into the gallery. i would wager that the set
is just as rare as the movie, so if you want one, you're going to have to do a LOT of looking.
4. didn't they used to have resin model kits of some of the characters? what happened to those?
ah, you are an avid fan if you remember the resin kits! well, like the
movie, when streamline pictures went out of the business, so did the
kits. the characters in the set included the android girl from presence,
the brown-haired girl from star light angel, and the drunken man and
robot from nightmare. i'm pretty sure that's all, but i may be mistaken.
at the time (about 1996), they cost anywhere from $129-$159 american dollars,
according to wizard.
5. when can i hear some rc music on your site?
*sigh* i'm afraid that this site may never have music from the movie. first of all, i
don't have the proper equipment to make either midis or mp3s. secondly, well... it's
just not really within my rights to do. mp3s have a bad reputation, and while i can
deal with the image scanning debate, i just can't deal with mp3 related gray areas.
basically, i'm a chicken. sorry.
